Lady Seahawks have recipe for victory
SANTA ROSA BEACH — Take good pitching, add in some timely hits and it’s a recipe for victory.
“We haven’t been doing anything spectacular,” said South Walton Seahawk Softball Coach Phil Tisa after his team chalked up its ninth win Thursday evening with a 3-0 victory over the Bozeman Bucks of the Sand Hills.
“We had good pitching, manufactured some runs and had some timely hits,” Tisa said.

Senior Shelby Watson went the distance in the circle for the Seahawks striking out 13 and giving up only one hit in the last inning. Watson also made a difference at the plate with a double for two RBIs in the fifth inning.
Other big hitters were sophomores Megan MacLeod and Mackenzie Watson. MacLeod ripped a double and a single for an RBI, while Mackenzie put down two bunt singles.
“It was a good night for Megan,” Tisa said. “She’s made some improvements in her swing and it paid off.”
In top of the first, Shelby Watson sat the Bucks down on three strikeouts.
South Walton’s Caitlin Holliday put down a bunt and stole second but that was it for the Seahawks in the bottom of the first.
Shelby rang up another Buck and forced two pop-ups in the second.
MacLeod connected for her first hit in the bottom of the second. With two outs, MacLeod smacked a double to left field. She said the pitch was right down the middle. The next batter grounded out, leaving her stranded.
South Walton finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Allison Stroop took one deep to left field and went to third on a passed ball. Stroop scored on a single to left by MacLeod for a 1-0 game.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Seahawks scored two more runs. With one out, Mackenzie Watson bunted and Holliday walked. On a double steal, both runners advanced, then scored on a hard-hit double to left by Shelby Watson. The next two Seahawks popped up for outs and South Walton led 3-0.
In the top of the sixth, Shelby sat the Bucks down with two strikeouts and a catch.
In the top of the seventh, Bozeman connected for its only hit of the game but to no avail. Courtney Wright had a catch at second for an out, then Shelby Watson struck out the next two to finish off the game.
Up next for South Walton is a 6 p.m. game Tuesday at Vernon.
