The sun is shining and the water is clear with a 1-foot wave rolling in at the Okaloosa Island Pier Tuesday morning. Before noon, anglers were already catching king mackerel, Spanish mackerel and hardtails. Other fish pulled in the last few days include redfish and skipjacks. A few pompano and whiting are also showing up in the surf.
Redfish are red hot and can be found near the bridges and Coast Guard station. There appears to be a lot of slot-size redfish to be had. The slot limit for redfish is 18 to 27 inches. Flounder gigging is starting to pick up as well.
Grouper and amberjack are biting along the natural bottom and on the wrecks. Live bait works best for both. You might even want to try a butterfly jig. The charters are also pulling in mingo, white snapper and an occasional blackfin tuna. Offshore, wahoo, dolphin and white marlin are reportedly showing up near the Ozark and Squiggles.
