I have been a homeowner in Destin for 27 years. When we first came to Destin the historic magnolia was a beautiful healthy specimen of a tree.

I was walking by the magnolia this past May with a local friend, who grew up in Destin, and pointed out to him how bad the tree looked. He never really noticed since he walks by it every day. He couldn't believe the tree's condition.

The tree has been in decline long before the zip line was installed.  As you know, there has been a lot of development in the area and the concrete at the base of the tree has been a major factor to the tree's decline.

Unfortunately, no one thought of the impact the concrete would have on the root system of the Magnolia.

Sadly, another Destin treasured landmark will be lost.
