With the sun shining, a southwest breeze, and 1-foot wave rolling in, the water is clean at the Okaloosa Island Pier Monday morning. Early Monday, anglers had already pulled in a few Spanish mackerel and hardtail. Other suspects showing up the last few days include redfish, tarpon, king mackerel, skipjack and bonito. A few ladyfish and blue runners are showing up in the surf.

The trout and redfish bite is still good. Try fishing the grass flats just outside the bayous close to the channels with live shrimp or menhaden. Itís also possible to hook up with a flounder in the potholes around the flats.

Red snapper in federal waters is off the catch list, however, recreational boats (not holding a federal permit) can continue to land red snapper in state waters until July 14. Right now the king mackerel is making a big showing. Try trolling the southeast rocks, broken bottom or Timber Holes. Gag grouper is back on the catch list as of July 1. Offshore fishing is good with reports of hook ups with white and blue marlin as well as tuna and swordfish.
