With 15 flavors of chicken salad to choose from, ranging from traditional to the unique, Destin's Chicken Salad Chick has a flavor for every palate.

"People in the south really have an appreciation for chicken salad, mostly because we've eaten it our whole lives," franchise owner Mark Singletary told The Log.

Located at 36150 Emerald Coast Parkway, Suite 111 in the City Market Shopping Center, Chicken Salad Chick opened its doors to hungry chicken salad lovers July 30. The Destin location is the second franchise in Florida.

Singletary will operate the fast-casual restaurant concept alongside his daughter Lauryn and her husband Cope Smith, who have been fans of the Chicken Salad Chick since eating at the original location in Auburn, Ala.

"This is a great opportunity for me and my partners to be part of the Destin community," Singletary said.

Much like an ice cream parlor where you can sample flavors, Singletary said customers can tempt their taste buds by sampling each flavor of chicken salad to find their favorite.

As a native Texan, and longtime Louisiana resident, Singletary is no stranger to bold flavors, and the Jalapeno Holly "scratched that itch" for him.

"It's not crazy hot, but itís definitely got the taste and flavor of jalapenos," he said.

Each variety of chicken salad features a unique name and has its own personality, such as Olivia's Old South, which is a southern tradition that combines sweet pickles and eggs, the Luau Lydia, which blends pineapple and macadamia nuts, the Fruity Fran, a combination of Fuji apples and seedless grapes, or the Jazzy Julie, which pairs a spicy mixture of cayenne pepper, bacon and shredded cheddar cheese.

The menu also features pimento cheese, turkey, Cajun roast beef and Virgina ham hoagies, cookies, soups, and a variety of gourmet sides, such as pasta salad, broccoli salad and grape salad.

"The grape salad has this dressing that will just make your eyes roll into the back of your head," Singletary said.

With the doors open in Destin, Singletary told The Log he is well passed the stage of being nervous, and he's "ready to go."

"We're all about Southern hospitality, we want our customers to come in and truly feel like they are a guest here," he said. "We're going to give them incredible experience, service and food."
