With more than 180 participants last year, Rodeo Run race director Kimmy Meyers is expecting more feet pounding the pavement for the 5K race at Clement Taylor Park in Destin.
"We're doubling our efforts to make it bigger and better," Meyers said. "And we anticipate at least 200 runners."
At the end of last week, she already had 100 registered for the event that will take its mark at 8 a.m. Oct. 6.
Two years ago was the first time the race was held since 1994. In year's past, The Destin Log and Harbor Docks sponsored the Rodeo Run, a 10K event followed by a Fun Run.
Today the event is a 5K, "and it's going to be the best one yet. We've got some big daddy prizes … a step above," Meyers said without giving away any surprises.
Cost to participate is $20 and registration will be open on race day from 7 a.m. until 7:45 a.m. at the park located on Calhoun Avenue. The first 200 to register will receive a Rodeo Run T-shirt.
The race, which is a flat, fast and simple course, will start at Clement Taylor Park run down Calhoun to Cross Street to the bay and back to Clement Taylor Park.
All runners are invited to the after-party upstairs at AJ's Seafood & Oyster Bar immediately following the race. In addition to food and beer, runners will be awarded for their efforts and will also be eligible for the raffling of prizes.
Following the awards, runners will have a chance to walk right down to the Destin Seafood Festival that will be spread out along the harbor, and the Destin Fishing Rodeo scales will open at 10 a.m. on the docks behind AJ's.
All the money from the Rodeo Run goes right back into the community with proceeds going toward the Miss Destin Scholarship Fund.
