Freda Joan Fife

Freda Joan Fife passed away peacefully with her family by her side the morning of March 20, 2014, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. She was a loving wife and mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Freda was born Feb. 24, 1937, in Olney, Ill., a farming community. Her parents were John and Verna Ulrich and she had six siblings. She was active in her church, Beulah Methodist, playing the piano for many years.

She met and married Dee L. Fife and moved to Fort Walton Beach in 1959, after Dee's time in the Army. Freda and Dee owned and operated Fife Refrigeration since 1971, and Fort Walton Restaurant Equipment (AKA: The Kitchen Shop), since 1975. Freda was a savvy businesswoman and was active in the American Business Women's Association, The Republican Club, and Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce. Freda had a great sense of humor and was loved by all.

She is survived by her husband, Dee L. Fife of Fort Walton Beach; sons, Dale Fife (Cecilia) and Russell Fife (Beth) of Destin; grandchildren, Amber McLean (Sean), Karen Fife, Rachel Nicholson (Steven), Nathan Fife; and great-grandchildren, Matthew McLean, Isaac McLean, Ava Noel McLean and Caleb Nicholson.

She is also survived by brothers, Paul and Millie Ulrich of Evansville, Ind., and Lowell and Norma Ulrich of Hardin, Ky.; sister, Lorene Miller of Chattanooga, Tenn.; sister-in–law, Janet Ulrich of Sumner, Ill.; and many loving nieces and nephews.

 A visitation will be held from 5-6 p.m., with a service at 6 p.m., March 24 at McLaughlin Mortuary, 17 Chestnut Ave. S.E. in Fort Walton Beach. Flowers will be accepted or donations made to the scholarship fund of the ABWA.
