Throughout the year, Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast partners with area agencies to meet critical needs in the community. The hospital recently partnered with Food For Thought, a not-for-profit organization that provides backpacks filled with healthy, easy to prepare food for students who are dependent on free or reduced school meals.
The organization’s goal is to support a child’s development and educational experience by bridging the gap between school meals during weekends and holiday breaks. Food For Thought has been working to fight child hunger since 2010, and currently serves 15 schools in Walton and Okaloosa Counties, providing backpacks for 770 students each week.
“Knowing that the need for food continues in the summer, we thought it would be a great idea to support this ministry during a non-traditional time of the school year,” said Jeff Ryan, manager of Mission Integration and Pastoral Care at Sacred Heart. “Associates rallied to donate over 675 food items. At Sacred Heart, we are proud to be part of a healing ministry that extends beyond the walls of the hospital to positively impact the community we have the privilege of serving.”
