The Northwest Florida State College Schola Cantorum (School of Singing), will present three public performances of seasonal music in December. All concerts are free of charge with donations accepted. The NWFSC Schola Cantorum is comprised of a diverse group of talented vocalists from throughout the two county area who present music from across the ages. Much of the music is unaccompanied by instruments. The group is directed by John Leatherwood, emeritus fine arts faculty member and symphony conductor at the college.
The NWFSC Schola Cantorum will perform at 7 p.m. Dec. 17 at the First Presbyterian Church in Crestview, 7 p.m. Dec. 18 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Niceville, and 6:30 p.m. Dec. 19 at St. Simon's on the Sound Episcopal Church in Fort Walton Beach.
The concert, “The Very Best Time of Year,” includes performances by vocalists Lin Loughlin, Dick Campis, Jennifer Moellenkamp, Promise Carr, Richard Montague, Tim Crawford, Karolann Nelson, Sara Florence, Phyllis Lake and Rebecca Wendel with Carolyn Schlatter, piano.
The program includes Sir Christemas; Gentle Mary; Wexford Carol -Irish traditional carol; Quelle est cette odeur agréable? (Whence is that goodly fragrance flowing?), French traditional carol; Rise Up, Shepherd, and Follow, Traditional spiritual; Amid the Calm of Winter’s Rest; I Offer My Heart; Carol of the Stable; As with Gladness Men of Old; Angels’ Carol; Sussex Carol; The Very Best Time of Year; The Twelve Days After Christmas; and We Wish You a Merry Christmas, English traditional carol.
