The entire Destin Community Center will be filled with Destin Snowbirds from 2-4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7. The executive and committee chairs have been planning for this event and are pleased to welcome all winter visitors to register with the Destin Snowbird Club. Vice-President John Testa has a team of 12 volunteers who will be strategically positioned from the front doors along the hallway and into the gymnasium.

The main event, under the direction of Evelyn Lemire, will be registration. At the entrance to the gymnasium registration cards will be given out, one per couple. Members will file into the hall where tables are available to write the required information on both sides of the cards. Volunteers will circulate among the tables to assist anyone with questions. Ken Yee will direct the flow of members to the registration desks based on the numbering of the registration cards.

Cost of membership is $8 per person, and as the saying goes, membership has its privileges. The membership card is your ticket to all activities and events on display. The traffic flow will lead from registration to the activities area where representatives for bowling, bridge, casino trips, chorus, computer club, fishing and skeet shooting, Funology, Mah Jongg, quilting and tennis will be on hand with information about each activity.

The 371 members currently registered for the season are encouraged to come on Monday. Please wear your membership badge so the greeters can identify you as a registered member. Your membership card will give you admission to purchase special event tickets for the Country Hoedown Party Jan. 26, The Valentine's Harbor Cruise Feb. 11, and the Fashion Show Feb. 14. All go on sale Monday for the first time this season. Tickets will be sold on a first come first serve basis with a canary yellow 2012/13 membership card. Please note, members (or their spouse) must be present at registration to purchase their tickets. They will sell quickly; don't be disappointed.

Tickets will also be on sale for the annual Soundsations Concert, in benefit of Northwest Florida State College, on Feb. 10. Everyone is welcome to attend. Tickets are $10 and will be on sale at every meeting and registration prior to the event.

Tickets will also be on sale for the Ladies' Golf Scramble Feb. 20 at Bluewater Bay. Representatives from area golf courses will be set up in this area of the gymnasium as well. Come and check out the special winter deals available to Destin Snowbird golfers.

Sponsoring restaurants, Carrabba's, The Back Porch, The Crab Trap, Fisherman's Wharf, Time Out Sports Bar and 790 On the Gulf, have been invited to bring samples of some tasty treats from their restaurants. The food area will be in the side breakout rooms, number two and three. Admission to this area will be restricted to members only; please wear your badge.

You will find Compass Bank, the bank of The Destin Snowbirds, in breakout room number one. The club benefits from each new account opened by club members and encourages members seeking a bank to talk to the representatives. The Northwest Daily News and Destin Log will be located in this room as well, selling subscriptions for these local papers.

President Timi Millar will preside over the first regular meeting of the New Year Jan. 8. David Hall will be on hand to entertain the crowd gathered at 8:30 a.m. and again at 11 a.m. Expect to see some of our 180 sponsoring vendors set up in the back of the hall. Also check out the literature tables located in the front foyer, for special deals and discounts from the contributing businesses.
