With overcast skies and a northeast wind, the water is clean with a 1-2 foot wave rolling in at the Okaloosa Island Pier on Tuesday. In the last few days anglers are pulling in pompano, redfish, flounder, whiting, bonito and sheepshead. Try live shrimp or an oyster on those sheepshead. Good bait for pompano is live shrimp or a sandflea.

Redfish and sheepshead are still good around the Destin Bridge and the jetties. Live shrimp, fiddler crab or an oyster works well for luring in a sheepshead. Trout can be found in deep water holes near the mouths of the river. Live shrimp or soft plastic grubs work well for luring in the trout.

Boats out bottom fishing are pulling in nice catches of mingo, white snapper, amberine and triggerfish as well as a few amberjack. Boston mackerel or squid on a small hook works best for triggerfish. Remember the shallow-water grouper fishery, 20-fathoms or less, is closed from Feb. 1 through March 31.
