Owned by Brian and Susan Hassmann, Landshark's Pizza Company in Destin hosts a monthly Ghost Chili Hot Wing Challenge that’s not for the faint-of-heart. Landshark's held its last monthly event on Friday, Jan. 11, where seven people took the wing challenge. Giving Landshark's wings their painfully hot pepper bite is the ghost chili. Just one level below law enforcement-grade pepper spray, the ghost chili rates well over one million Scoville units, compared to a jalapeno which maxes out at 8,000 Scoville units.

Now in its fourth month holding the challenge, this has become a tradition for folks like Neil Sebree of Santa Rosa Beach. Setting a record in December, Sebree clucked his way through the 10-wing challenge in two minutes and seven seconds. Not to be outdone by himself, Sebree beat his own time, setting yet another record on Friday when he finished the wings in two minutes and three seconds. “… and he did so without a hint of tears, whining, bellyaching, or any other form of behavior that would put a fellow’s man card in jeopardy,” their website states.  The wing-winner wins prizes include gift certificates, t-shirts, cozies and everything in between. Sebree was also awarded with a large glass beer mug embossed with the words "Ghost Pepper Wing Challenge Champion." The next February Ghost Wing Challenge will be Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Landshark's Pizza Co. in Destin. Landshark's Pizza Company is located at 763 Harbor Blvd. and can be reached at 424-6743 and landsharkspizzacompany.com. Will the champ defend his title in February?
