Southside Primary School sponsored a food drive, which will be donated to an area homeless shelter. The students and staff collected 407 nonperishable items.
These Crestview students also participated in the Holiday Christmas Cards, coordinated by Military and Family Life Consultant Katie Weeks. Weeks spent time in each classroom to help students create cards that will be sent to military personnel.
The Niceville High School band has several students who earned tickets to the all-state program that takes place early in the new year: Claire Ottesen, French horn; Clara Brown, clarinet; Emily Edwards, flute; and Pablo Duque, alto saxophone.
Brick by brick, Niceville’s Edge Elementary School is building a Wisdom Wall.
Bricks can be purchased and customized with a student’s name, a former student’s name, a favorite teacher’s name or even an important quotation.
Brick prices begin at $25.

Just before their Thanksgiving break, Crestview’s Riverside Elementary School students who placed in the grade level spelling bee found themselves vying for top speller schoolwide.
“It was a nail biter,” said Media Specialist Patty Davis.
The school’s winner was Jacob Fensler, with Ronen Peck placing second.
Paxton School hosted its Tropicana Speech competition, with first-, second- and third-place awarded at participating grade levels:
Fourth grade: Cade Stewart, Braylen Bradley, and Payson Cook; fifth grade: Marley McClelland, Kaylee Yeakos and Destini Chapman; sixth grade:Ana McQuaig, Rylee Braswell and Channing Coone.
St. Mary School’s Student Council and Mercy in Motion club sponsored a food drive in November, collecting 2,111 items. The nonperishables were donated to Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida for distribution to people in need during the holidays.
Also in November, the school’s robotics team, Digital Spirits, competed in a FIRST LEGO League competition. The prequailifer was supported by Doolittle Institute and hosted by Shoal River Middle School.
The Digital Spirits earned the Core Values Award at the competition.
