Editor’s note: We asked local pastors how their church is handling the coronavirus and their own approach. Meet Steve Vaggalis, the pastor of Destiny Worship Center.
What is your church doing to accommodate for social distancing?
We first realize what we can’t do. That’s to gather corporately and in settings of 10 and more. We want to do our part. We are gathering through technology and having our small group leaders touch base with their groups to ensure our care continues even though it looks different.
What do you think people can do to maintain their faith during this time of uncertainty?
I would limit the amount of media that has a way of “depleting” your faith by magnifying the virus. I would be constantly listening to worship music that magnifies how big God is.
What are you personally doing right now to strengthen your own faith?
I’m switching my attitude from feeling quarantined to seeing this as solitude. My morning prayer walks have been priceless.
Is there a Bible verse or passage you recommend at this time?
Genesis 15:1 God is our shield and our exceeding great reward. This reminds me that just like Abraham, I am in allegiance with God and he will protect us (shield) and provide for us (reward) during this crisis.
