In the past 60 years the Emerald Coast has grown quite a bit. That growth is no more apparent than when looking at aerial photos of the Destin Harbor and East Pass.

Destin is named after Leonard Destin, a fishing captain from Connecticut who settled in the area between 1845 and 1850.

"Crab Island," was actually two islands made from sand that the Army Corps of Engineers dredged up from the East Pass.

The Emerald Grande changed the landscape of Destin and created a skyline in the once small fishing village.

Word spread across the world about the great fishing and white sand on our beaches. The Destin Harbor is now a bustling avenue filled with anglers, locals and tourists.
