Destin Commons is inviting future and current electric vehicle owners to come out on Friday during National Drive Electric Week, which runs through Sept.17.
People will learn everything about driving an electric car. The event, which is sponsored by Gulf Power and JuicedCar.com, will feature electric vehicle owners and their vehicles. They will display their vehicles at the South Street area of Destin Commons next to World of Beer from 3-7 p.m.
Electric cars, motorcycles, bikes and vendor exhibits will be on display. Attendees will also enjoy vendor booths, vehicle presentations, test drives and informational presentations.
“We want to put together a presentation and an experience for people," said Heather Ruiz, Destin Common’s marketing director. “They can come and check out what an electric vehicle is all about.”
Ruiz said 46 vehicles have registered for the event already and she believes that number will grow leading up to the event.
“This event is for people to attend and also learn more about how to reduce emission,” she said. “It’s going to be a great compilation of electric vehicles.”
JuicedCar.com’s John Collins said its more of a public awareness event.
“Electric car owners will be available to answers questions and how it works to own an electric car,” he said.
Collins said people need to rethink the way they use transportation.
“Most people don’t realize that electric vehicles are an option when looking for a car,” he said.
Collins said electric cars need minimal maintenance like rotation of tires and changing windshield wipers.
“In the long run you will be saving a lot of money and any money you do spend, it will stay local," he said. “That’s not the case when you buy gas.”
