When you walk into The Boardwalk of Okaloosa Island’s newest restaurant, Lobster Tail, you are sure to see a familiar face – Breanna Lunsford bartended at the location when it was The Black Pearl and has stuck around for the transition to Lobster Tail.
“Yep, they are stuck with me until I graduate,” Lunsford said laughing, referring to her undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the University of West Florida.
Lunsford joined Day & Night for Signature Sip last year as the first female bartender to be featured and said a lot has changed since we last talked.
“I was on a gin kick back then, but I’m on a whiskey kick now,” she said. “I had a really great whiskey drink from another bar and that’s what got me into it.”
Lunsford, a life-time Fort Walton Beach local, said on her off time she likes to play tourist.
“I kind of go out and do the same thing they do,” she said motioning to the nearby beachgoers. “I have my little hole-in-the-wall places I like to visit. I paddleboard. I like to go to Crab Island. I also have a dog named Roxy, so I like to take her to the dog park.”
When it comes to her signature sip, Lunsford chose her favorite cocktail on the new Lobster Tail menu, The Florida Cooler.
“It’s main ingredient is grapefruit vodka, and I like grapefruit,” she said. “Growing up, my grandmother used to serve us grapefruit with sugar on it. It’s refreshing and light – a very summery drink.”
As for the vibe at the new Lobster Tail, Breanna said she likes the new beach-style atmosphere.
“It’s really relaxed and beachy,” she said. “It has that hidden-gem, sort-of secret dining spot vibe, and it’s kid-friendly with that perfect vacation feeling.”
