DESTIN – A 33-year-old man insisted he was only buzzed after being pulled over for violating the idle speed zone while driving a boat near Crab Island.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers pulled over the suspect for the idle speed zone violation and noticed a highly impaired woman lying on the bow of the vessel, according to an arrest report. There were also several beer cans scattered around the boat.

The driver admitted he consumed 12 beers throughout the day, but repeatedly said he was buzzed but not highly impaired.

The boat driver agreed to a sobriety test and showed nine clues that he was impaired, the report said.

He was arrested and charged with a first degree misdemeanor for boating under the influence.
