Only twice in the past two decades has the Destin Fishing Rodeo closed, and both were due to a hurricane.
“Last year Hurricane Nate hit during the first weekend of October and they even had to call off the Destin Seafood Festival,” said Helen Donaldson, executive director for the Destin Fishing Rodeo. “Fortunately, we got the seafood festival under our belt this year.”
Donaldson said she stopped by the Rodeo docks behind AJ’s Seafood and Oyster Bar Wednesday and reported no significant damage.
“We were there yesterday and everything seems to be in place,” she said. “There is some clean up to do, which is expected after such a wind, but we moved all of our stuff out like the trailer and the barge so we are just getting everything moved back in today.”
The Destin Fishing Rodeo is set to reopen the scales at 10 a.m. Friday.
“We could probably open at 10 a.m. today but we have to get everything back in place,” said Donaldson. “Everything is good, we are very fortunate.”
