As hurricane recovery continues for neighbors to the east of our counties, the students and educators have been at the front of fundraising and supply collections.

Starting with the Oct. 19 cross-county race between South Walton High School and Freeport High School, fans made donations as they entered the stadium.

“We will continue to take any donations that we receive and pass them on,” said SWHS Coach Phil Tisa. The donations will be distributed by dentist Reese Harrison.

“Dr. Harrison has children that have gone through South Walton,” Tisa said, noting that Harrison’s practice suffered destruction from the hurricane.

“The (donation) site is protected by 24-hour security, and all items received there go directly out into the community,” Tisa added.

The Fort Walton Beach High School students and the community began collecting hurricane relief supplies to be transported to eastern sections of Northwest Florida where Hurricane Michael caused severe distress and damage.

The Vikings football program and the school as a whole accepted donations at the entrance to the Oct. 19 football game.
