Did you ever, while stabbing the keys on a mischievous computer in a hopeless muddle, feel as if you are standing alone in a crowded railway depot watching your train leave without you? Alas, computers can foster that kind of feeling of hopelessness. However, if you can spare a sawbuck, Ken Lamire and his pals, Larry Wons, Carl Lofstrom, and Eddie Branch will, with a magician’s elan, uncloak many of the mysteries surrounding Microsoft Windows 10 and the Apple iPad. Ten bucks grants membership in the South Walton Computer & Technology Club where free sessions pulsate in an atmosphere of determined usefulness. Worry not if you missed the first session held on Jan. 8. You can still join them at 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays through the end of February (Jan. 22nd and Feb. 12 and 26). Find them at Faith Assembly Hall, 306 South Geronimo Street in Miramar Beach.
Here is something to place at the top of your “things I don’t want to miss” list. It is a dinner social set for Jan. 18, and again on Feb. 8, at Fudpucker’s Beachside Bar and Grill. It starts at 4:30 p.m. Dinner an hour later. Get this! Fud’s, for this event, will discount your dinner bill 50 percent. By the way, pick up a Snowbird Fud Card at registration good for a $2 discount on drinks all day, every day. All this plus a self-guided tour of Gator Beach, the home of more than 100 alligators. From the restaurant’s deck, view these last survivors of an era that preceded the dinosaurs in the comforting assurance that you are not today’s alligator entrée.
It is neither too late nor too early to get tickets for the Ladies Luncheon and Jewelry Show where local jewelers will display current offerings and donate items to a raffle. Proceeds will go to Children in Crisis. It takes place in the Crystal Room of the Henderson Beach Resort on Feb. 10. Take a moment to check out the magnificent photographs of historic Destin that align the corridor leading to the Crystal Room then step into an elevator, press “R” to ascend to the roof for one of the finest gulf views in Destin. Better yet, return later for a memorable view of the sunset while enjoying southern hospitality Henderson Beach Resort style. For tickets and other information, contact Susan Newell at email@example.com.
The next general meeting takes place at 10 a.m. Jan. 23 at Destin United Methodist Church. The next registration of new and returning members is 8:30–10:30 a.m. Jan. 14 at Faith Assembly Hall, 306 South Geronimo Street in Miramar Beach.
