DESTIN — The Coast Guard continued its search Monday for a boater who went missing near Destin.
The 40-year-old man was ejected from a 20-foot center console vessel in Choctawhatchee Bay Sunday after a reported malfunction, according to a press release from the Coast Guard. The vessel reportedly drove in circles and struck the missing individual.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office responded to the rogue vessel and rescued another man who also was thrown from the boat. He is in stable condition, the release said.
The Coast Guard responded to a request for assistance at 12:40 p.m. Sunday. Crews searched throughout the night and into Monday evening for the missing man.
Helicopters, boats and scuba divers were also deployed to search, the press release said.
The man, who has red hair, was last seen wearing a red shirt and gray shorts.
The Coast Guard has not released his identity.
According to Petty Officer Kamil Zdankowski, the accident happened about a mile northwest of the Destin Army Recreation Area.
