As part of an annual meeting of special districts across Florida, Destin local and Fire Chief at Destin Fire Control District Kevin Sasser was elected to the executive board of the Florida Association of Special Districts (FASD).
Sasser hopes to help spread awareness among the 1,700-plus special districts in Florida about the benefits of FASD’s professional education and training in public service.
“It is an honor and privilege to represent special districts from around the state as a member of the executive board,” Sasser said. “I look forward to working diligently to educate our residents and elected officials regarding the important role special districts have in providing invaluable services to the citizens of our beautiful state.”
The election process took place during FASD’s annual Conference at the Sanibel Harbour Marriott in Fort Myers June 10 through 13. Other newly selected board members include:
● Mike Dillon, South Indian River Water Control District
● David Hoel, Lee County Mosquito Control District
● Nate Spera, St. Lucie County Fire District
Founded in 1979, FASD offers support to the leaders of Florida’s special districts by means of advocating for positive actions, providing training and certification programs for district officials and managers, supplying networking opportunities and idea sharing among the districts, and affording access to the latest information and laws that affect special districts every day.
