A woman was hit by a vehicle Saturday night was crossing U.S. Highway 98 from McGuire's Irish Pub to the HarborWalk Village.
DESTIN — A woman was taken to a local hospital Saturday night after being hit by a vehicle while walking across U.S. Highway 98.
According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office dispatch, the incident occurred about 8:50 p.m. Saturday.
Michele Nicholson, OCSO spokeswoman, said the woman wasn’t walking in a cross walk and was headed to HarborWalk Village from McGuire’s Irish Pub.
"She had significant injuries, but the initial word was that she was going to survive," said Nicholson, who added that the victim was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
For Lisa Mathon, an Illinois resident who witnessed the incident, it "didn’t look promising."
In a Facebook message, Mathon told the Daily News that she and her husband DJ were waiting outside McGuire’s when the accident happened.
"(We) turned around and people started running toward the road," Mathon said. "A black truck had hit an older woman. She was about 50 feet from her carry-out box, covered in bruises and bleeding within seconds of the accident."
OCSO still is working on an incident report, limiting details available on the victim, Nicholson said.
