MIRAMAR BEACH — New and returning students united Aug. 17 with the Emerald Coast Theatre Company for its annual Tribe Night event. ECTC welcomed costumed students to a decked out, pirate-themed party at its performance space at 560 Grand Boulevard in Miramar Beach.

This event allowed ECTC’s students and parents to not only meet their new teachers for the fall classes but also honor former educational leader Darla Briganti with a surprise send-off and recognition during the award ceremony.

The award ceremony included show participation awards for returning students to recognize their hard work and dedication in ECTC’s various educational programs over the years, and the evening concluded with a troupe induction ceremony for participating sixth through eighth graders as well as the announcement of new troupe officers. The new troupe officers announced were Maya Sien (president), Clara Taylor (assistant vice president), Wren Hall (historian), and Kara Crowther (secretary). New troupe inductees included Aidean Aichele, Sasha Blair, Aislynn Brown, Aaliyah Herrera, Sean Rushford, Kaylynn Sirney, Gabrielle Wells, and Ben Wright.

In partnership with the Seaside Neighborhood School, ECTC’s Junior Thespian Troupe No. 89447 is a part of District 10 and a chartered member of the Educational Theatre Association's Junior Thespians. The troupe competes in regional and state competitions and focuses on specialized training, acting techniques and implementing those techniques into performance. ECTC’s Junior Thespian Troupe is now being led by Rebeca Lake.

ECTC offers other various educational theater classes every year for K through 12th grade. This fall’s youth productions include “We Are Monsters,” “Disney’s Aladdin KIDS,” and “Elf Jr.” ECTC is also currently offering a musical cabaret class.
