Trulieve Cannabis Corp. opened its 38th Florida medical marijuana dispensary in Panama City Beach on Wednesday.

PANAMA CITY BEACH — A large marijuana dispensary chain opened its 38th Florida store at the beach on Wednesday.

Trulieve Cannabis Corp. opened the medical cannabis dispensary at 9952 Hutchison Boulevard, Suite 100, Panama City Beach.

There was a line and the parking lot was filled with people waiting to get their hands on the medical marijuana. It’s something that people have been waiting for since marijuana was made legal for medicinal purposes.

Inside the dispensary was packed and people could barely move a couple of feet without running into somebody. Dispensary workers took medical cards and information to form a line of people to enter the shop.

It was a spectacle of a grand opening for the first few people who walked out of the dispensary. They were greeted with applause from the people waiting for their medicinal marijuana.

Trulieve also sold merchandise like shirts and bags to celebrate the opening. The employees were just as excited as the customers.

"We’re thrilled for this location itself because it has been a longtime coming," said Trulieve Community Educator Renee Legere. "I know the patients out here in Bay County have been asking for one and we’re excited to be the first one on the Beach."

Even though the dispensary didn’t officially open until 10 a.m., some customers were there waiting since 8 a.m.

"We have been waiting on the opening of Trulieve for three years now and it’s the best thing going around here," said Panama City resident Curtis Williams.

Patients that were at the opening have been looking for a natural route instead of traditional medication.

"I went medicinal marijuana because of what pills can do to your kidneys and how they can make you addicted," Williams said. "As a vet of the military, it (marijuana) has helped more with mental issues like anxiety and depression."
