Programs at the Destin Library

The Friends Guild of the Destin Library presents a free program open to the public. At 2 p.m. Nov. 12, crime prevention practitioner Brian MacNeel will present an entertaining and educational crime prevention program where he will recommend tested procedures to enhance personal safety. Topics will include identity theft, purse snatching, fraud and scams, computer security, carjacking, and much more.

Republican Women

Holiday Open House

Today’s Boutique, 4433 Commons Drive E #E103 in Destin, will host its annual Holiday Open House from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 15-16 as a celebration to kick off the Christmas season. Choctawhatchee Audubon Society

Holiday Craft Show

The City of Destin’s 13th Annual Holiday Craft Show will be held at the Destin Community Center from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 15 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 16. There will be hand-crafted jewelry, wreaths, books, concessions, and much more from over 50 vendors. Vendor booths are available for $45/residents and $55/non-residents (+$10 for a corner booth). SHRM

The Society for Human Resource Management of the Emerald Coast (SHRM-ECC) will meet at 7:15 a.m. Nov. 20 at CareerSource Okaloosa Walton. 415 Racetrack Road in Fort Walton Beach. ACT/SAT Workshop

A workshop to assist students in Okaloosa County high schools who will take the Dec. 14 ACT and Dec. 7 SAT will be held from 2:15-5:15 p.m. Dec. 2-5 in the Media Center at Fort Walton Beach High School. The Destin History and Fishing Museum will host the author John S. Sledge, who wrote “The Gulf of Mexico: A Maritime History,” from 4-6 p.m. Nov. 21 for a booksigning. The Museum is at 108 Stahlman Avenue in Destin.

Northwest Florida State College Author’s event

The Diversity and Inclusion Committee of Northwest Florida State College welcomes Dr. Jean Halley and Dr. Amy Eshleman to the Niceville campus at 7 p.m. Nov. 21. The women are the authors of "Seeing Straight: An Introduction to Gender and Sexual Privilege,” and the pair will give a free lecture in the Mattie Kelly Arts Center Sprint Theater. Following the presentation, the authors will host a meet-and-greet and book signing. Northwest Florida State College’s Barnes & Noble bookstore will have copies of the authors' works for sale. This event is free and open to the public.

Destin Commons Tree Lighting

Old Saint Nick returns to Destin Commons to light the Christmas tree from 6-8 p.m. Nov. 22. Children and families can enjoy free face painting, photos with Rudolph and Frosty, and a holiday photo booth. The parade kicks off at 7 p.m. as Santa Claus arrives on Main Street to light the tree. Fireworks close the evening.

Holiday Baking

A Holiday Baking Class with Chef Jim Shirah will be held at the Destin Community Center for children ages 8-14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 26 and 27. The fee is $40/residents and $50/non-residents. Christmas Tree Lighting

The 33rd annual Christmas Tree Lighting, hosted by the City of Destin, will be held at the Destin Community Center at 6 p.m. Dec. 5 with a visit from Santa. There will be entertainment from local choruses, musical groups, etc. with refreshments being served after the lighting. Donations of canned food will be collected for families in need. ADSO Christmas Fair

The Arts and Design Society will hold a very special Christmas Fair at the Art Center on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m, when artists and crafters will sell their wares, primarily Christmas-gift-worthy items, in time for the holidays. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be available for a $5 donation, including drink and chips. A bake sale will also be featured. The public is invited. Seniors of Destin

Christmas Parade

The City of Destin’s 35th annual Christmas Parade will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 14. This year’s theme is “Santa’s Workshop.” The floats will start at Downtown Destin Shopping Center (Old Time Pottery) and travel west down Harbor Boulevard (Highway 98) to Stahlman Avenue. Please stand on the north side of Harbor Boulevard to watch the floats. For those who wish to put a float in the parade, applications are available at the Destin Community Center. In lieu of an entry fee, each entry must make a donation of a new toy for a local charity, to be dropped off at the Destin Community Center. Applications must be turned in no later than Dec. 6. Peer to Peer Support Group

Mental Health Association of Okaloosa and Walton Counties is sponsoring a Peer to Peer Support Group every Thursday at Santa Rosa Beach Community Church, Room 206, 3524 US Hwy 98, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Whether you want to learn new life skills or better understand Mental Health Recovery, you will find support here.
