On Tuesday, the Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and luncheon to highlight the McPlayroom, a brightly-painted addition to its Ronald McDonald House Family Room.
The extension was funded by a $100,000 grant from David Costa Enterprises Inc.
"(The McPlayroom) gives the guests who may be grieving or struggling a sense of normalcy," David Costa Sr., president of David Costa Enterprises, said in an email. "This is especially exciting for us to be a part of because of the focus we put on children in our restaurant’s playlands. ... We had the ability to bring the same energy to the Ronald McDonald House Family Room."

Costa’s company operates 24 McDonald’s across Northwest Florida.
According to a press release from the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Florida, the family room, which opened earlier this year, is a 2,800-square-foot space on the second floor of the hospital.
The area includes the McPlayroom, three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a living room, dining room, kitchen, shower room, laundry room and computer area.
Its goal was to create a place for visiting children and families to "unwind ... and have fun while their siblings or family members are being cared for," the release said.
Judy Burns, executive director of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Florida, hoped the additions to the hospital would create a "home away from home" for visitors.
"We’ve seen a tremendous need for this space since the children’s hospital opened, and we are so blessed to be able to help more families than ever before," she said in the release.
