LAUREL HILL— U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz made one thing perfectly clear Friday night: He will not run for president in 2024.
He told a standing room-only crowd at The Barn at Water Oaks Farm in Laurel Hill that he has no interest in answering to people in predominantly blue areas such as San Francisco, New York or Los Angeles.
“I have the best bosses in the world,” he said after a woman asked him about a possible presidential run. “I represent the 700,000 people in Northwest Florida. I wouldn’t trade all of you for anything.”

Gaetz was in Laurel Hill one day after he appeared on “The View” with Whoopi Goldberg, Meghan McCain, Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin. He joked that when he heard he was going on a show with all women, he thought he was auditioning for “The Bachelor.”
But more seriously, Gaetz said the appearance gave him a chance to promote the national “revival” under President Donald Trump.
“This is a time of revival in our country,” Gaetz said. “It’s hard to see as an American any other American root against that no matter who’s in power.”

He will make an appearance on any show to promote this time of revival, he added.
Gaetz’s remarks struck home with several hundred supporters at the town hall meeting. Many of them congratulated him and asked for selfies during the event.
On issues closer to home, Gaetz emphasized his support of a connector road system to ease traffic concerns on State Road 85 through Crestview. He said motorists now sit in traffic because politicians and community officials “didn’t do the planning” when SR 85 was built.

“It is like you are being robbed of time with your family,” Gaetz said. ”I can give you back hours of your life to spend with your spouses or not spend time with your spouses.“
He added that to be a successful community, there has to be connectivity, which led him to address the importance of the military and how traffic problems affect those men and women.
“It is a tremendous source of pride for me that I represent the highest concentration of active duty military in the entire Congress,” Gaetz said.
His appearance in Laurel Hill came after a visit to Destin Middle School, where he congratulated the soccer and basketball teams for their county championships.Sorry, you are using an unsupported browser. This page will not display correctly.
