DESTIN — The application period for local businesses seeking help from the city’s Small Business COVID-19 Recovery Grant Program starts at 8 a.m. Monday and ends at 5 p.m. June 5.


The individual grant amount is $2,500. The City Council recently approved the grant program, which aims to help for-profit businesses in the city address their immediate cash flow needs.


Destin officials have partnered with the Florida Small Business Development Center at the University of West Florida on the program, and the city has funded it with $103,000. Each applicant or business is limited to receiving one grant.


To qualify for a grant, a business must: Be a for-profit, privately-held small business that maintains a storefront location within the city limits; have been established and active in Destin before Jan. 1, 2019; have been profitable in 2019 as indicated in tax returns or financial documents; have a demonstrated reduction in sales revenues of at least 25% due to the loss of business income related to COVID-19; have no more than 20 employees; and not have received funding from another grant program available to small businesses in the Panhandle; have a current, city-issued business license.
