Jan Evans Fernald
Navarre - Jan Evans Fernald, age 61, of Navarre, Florida, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Sunday, August 15, 2021, after a long and courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. Jan was born on December 19, 1959, in Harbor City, Los Angeles County, California and was the last of three children born to the late Frank and Zelma Evans. Jan was a graduate of the University of West Florida and a United States Air Force Veteran. Her career culminated with 20 years of service to BAE supporting military defense contracts.
She served as President and Board member in the Emerald Coast Chapter of the Deep South Dressage & Combined Training Association (DSDCTA) as well as an officer and board member of DSDCTA and waslicensed by the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) as a certified Technical Delegate for United States Dressage Federation (USDF) nationally recognized horse shows. Jan was also a horse show manager extraordinaire and the heart of the Blue Angel Dressage show committee.
Jan is survived by her husband, Steve Fernald; her stepchildren, Megan Fernald Hedaria (Greg Hedaria) and Tamara Anthony (Russell Anthony); her grandchildren, Vincent "Eli" Hedaria and Michael Anthony; her siblings, Eric Evans (Heidi Evans Ravven) and Dan Evans (Julie Evans); her niece, Danielle Evans, and her nephew, Ben Evans.
A friend and mentor to many, Jan is lovingly remembered for her enthusiasm around all things equestrian, her fearless sense of adventure, her passion for books, travel, and classic movies, as well as her kind, patient and calming demeanor. She was a witty and thoughtful conversationalist, and an outstanding role model to those she inspired. Jan is deeply and dearly missed.
Jan's family is planning a virtual celebration of life to take place later this year. Details to follow.
