Joan Michele “Mickey” Stovall, age 80, of Shalimar, Florida, passed into the arms of the Lord January 14, 2023 at the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. Mickey was born July 26, 1942 in Miamisburg, Ohio to Charles and Marguerite Merrill. She graduated in 1960 from Colonel White H.S. in Dayton, Ohio, and took her first secretarial job at Wright Patterson AFB. At one of the monthly Officers Club dances, she danced and fell in love with 2nd Lieutenant Robert (Bob) Stovall, and on November 9, 1963 they married in the base chapel, beginning their 59 year adventure together. They welcomed a son, David, in 1964, and their second son, Jeffrey, in 1966. As Air Force assignments took them to Albuquerque, Sacramento, Dayton, and finally Fort Walton Beach, Mickey was a faithful support to Bob, a loving (and fun-loving) mom to her boys, and an active member of base and community organizations. Also an outstanding secretary, she returned to Civil Service work at Eglin AFB until her retirement in 1991. Mickey was gifted and prolific in cross-stitch, needlepoint, and knitting, and was also renowned for her strawberry-rhubarb pie. She enjoyed extensive travels, reading, bowling, and most of all, being “Grandma” to the four grandchildren she loved so dearly. Mickey is survived by her husband, Robert Stovall; their sons, David Stovall (Kim) and Jeffrey Stovall (Laura); grandchildren, Jordan Stovall, Joshua Stovall, Joseph Stovall, and Amanda Byington (Christopher); sister, Sally Garst (Andy); and niece, Joan Pegram (Christopher) and their two children. A Celebration of Life will be held at Shalimar United Methodist Church, 1 Old Ferry Road, Shalimar, FL on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. A visitation will begin an hour prior to service and a reception will follow in the church Family Life Center.

Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Watkins Funeral Homes and Crematory. To view the service and post remembrances, condolences and photos to the tribute wall, please visit www.daviswatkins.com
