Mr. Lyndell Ladue Davis, age 89, passed away March 5, 2023. He was born on September 20, 1933 in Laurel Hill, Florida to Homer C. Davis and Effie Lee Dickinson Davis.
Mr. Davis was a resident of DeFuniak Springs, Florida. He was Presbyterian by faith and a member of Euchee Valley Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and deacon. He graduated from Crestview High School in 1950 where he was a member of the Sports Hall of Fame. He graduated from Troy State University, receiving his bachelor’s and master’s degree. He also attended Florida State University. He was the first basketball coach at Freeport High School. He also coached at Crestview High School and Walton High School, where he was a member of the Sports Hall of Fame. He worked as an educator having taught High School math for 22 years. He then worked in administration as an assistant principal of Walton Middle School, Walton High School, and Principal of Freeport High School. He later became Director of Transportation and Food Services before retiring with 38 years in the school system. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle. He was an avid sports fan and loved gardening and riding on his tractor.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his father and mother; sister Michelle “Mickey” Davis; and special cousin Ronnie Davis.
Mr. Davis is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Florasteen Davis of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; his children (all of DeFuniak Springs, Florida): Mike Davis and wife Donna, Mark Davis and wife Susan, and Terri Zan Jenkins and husband Vann; six grandchildren: Jared Jenkins, Bradley Jenkins, Brady Davis, Blake Davis and wife Magali, Carly Davis, and Jackson Davis; two great-grandchildren: Benjamin Davis and Lindon Jenkins; and his sister Sue Evans of Beavercreek, Ohio.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Vitas Hospice and especially Justin Redman for the love and care provided to Mr. Davis and the family. They would also like to thank Laura Baumeister and Dr. Wayne Campbell, his primary care physicians.
A time of visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel; 230 Park Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Euchee Valley Presbyterian Church; 5551 County Highway 183S, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435.
Pallbearers will be Blake Davis, Brady Davis, Jackson Davis, Jared Jenkins, Bradley Jenkins, and Faron Doggett.
Flowers are being accepted.
Burial will follow in the Euchee Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
