He brags about being able to shoot someone on 5th Avenue and not lose any voters. He accuses FBI and all National Security personnel of wrongdoing and believes Russian Putin over his own security people.
I haven’t written to my paper in quite some time, but this week’s editorial pages have caused me concern. Catherine Tout seems to think “printing opinions can divide public” and Dave Wall thinks “Trump has earned a break.” Really? For me, he’s been given a pass for way too much bad behavior during his entire term of office.
Catherine, really, opinions being printed in the newspaper are not dividing this country. Every newspaper has an editorial page and I’m always glad to see opposing views despite the fact that some of them cause my head to ache. She refused to point out “all the lies” and I confess I don’t see any.
This president has behaved badly and should have been convicted of the two counts of impeachment. He put the word out that nobody would provide people or documents to Congress. Congress has a duty to oversee the executive branch so refusal to allow people to testify or provide documents is against the Constitution.
Even though senators would say what he did was wrong and even though they raised their hands and swore an oath to protect the Constitution, they voted not guilty. These are the same senators who when campaigning against Trump said he was unfit for office. They were right then; wrong on the not-guilty vote.
Start with all the lies. He refused to accept the fact that his inauguration crowd was smaller than President Obama’s. He continues to lie every day of things important and not.
Then think of his retaliatory language towards anyone who fails to agree with him. He fires FBI Chief Comey on TV and even tries to deny him a way home (he was on official travel making a speech at the time and that’s how he learned he was fired). Even today, Trump wants Comey to face prison for imagined wrongs in Trump’s mind.
He brags about being able to shoot someone on 5th Avenue and not lose any voters. He accuses FBI and all National Security personnel of wrongdoing and believes Russian Putin over his own security people. He has one-on-one meetings with dictators and fails to inform his own cabinet of the details — even forces translator to tear up his notes.
The turnover in the White House Staff is very concerning. So is the nepotism of having his daughter and son-in-law working there despite the fact they could not pass a background check. Trump just issued them clearance anyway. Asking a foreign country for favors is illegal.
There’s the constant campaigning rallies he’s been holding during his entire term of office that are costing taxpayers, and there’s the expense of those and of the constant trips to Mar-a-Largo. The cost of housing Secret Service there all those week-ends is outrageous. He continues to hold rallies even though he has no real competition in the race to re-election.
His interference in the Stone case is also outrageous. It shows that AG Barr is beholden to the president rather than the people. His vicious comments about the four attorneys who removed themselves due to the interference are most troubling.
There’s so much to be alarmed about and that changes daily it seems. I haven’t even mentioned the horrible policy of taking kids from their parents and putting them in cages or of taking money from Dept of Defense to build the wall. He should not be able to re-appropriate funds. None of his actions are normal and that is very concerning to me. And … he should not be able to punish an ally by withholding funds that Congress approved for them.
So, to sum up: Trump is not fit to be president of this country, but his enablers are also guilty of allowing his continued bad behavior
