The Destin Senior Dolphins took care of business last Saturday and shut out the Vernon Yellow Jackets 31-0.

With the win, the Dolphins advance to play in the first round of the playoffs. The Destin Seniors will play Shalimar at 7 p.m. at Freeport on Saturday, Oct. 28.

Against Vernon, Eli Williams led the Dolphins with four touchdowns, each for more than 30 yards.

Maddox Fayard scored a touchdown on a 50 yard run with wide receiver Austin McDowell making a huge block to clear the way.

Erik Scott made the only extra-point conversion for the Dolphins, and Brandon Harnish recovered an onside kick.

“The defense dominated all four quarters,” said Destin Coach Ryan Orr. “And the O-line controlled the line of scrimmage.

“I am very proud of the boys to come back and play so hard against Vernon after last week’s loss to Walton. It showed heart and maturity,” Orr added.

Team captains for Destin in the game against Vernon were Zac Thomas, David Bowman, Aiden Mohr and Dalton Taylor.

The Destin Juniors lost 7-0 to Lynn Haven. They will get another shot at Lynn Haven this Saturday in the playoffs. Game time is 3 p.m. in Freeport.
