Connecting for her third home run of the season, Samantha Sherer led the Destin Lady Marlins in a 15-1 victory over the Meigs Wildcats in middle school softball action in Shalimar Monday afternoon.
Sherer went three for three with a home run shot in the fourth inning, plus two singles.
Sherer wasn’t the only Marlin to put the bat on the ball.
“Our hitting was amazing today,” said Destin Coach Brittany Cahoon.
Allison McCraw went two for three with two singles and three RBIs for Destin, while Kaylin Winter went two for three with two singles and two RBIs.
“We started from the very first inning and just kept building on it,” Cahoon said.
Destin scored one run in the second with Olivia Payne hitting a double and scoring on a single from McCraw.
In the third inning, the Marlins exploded for 13 runs on five hits. Sherer, McCraw, Grayson King, Elaina Perkins and Winters each got hits.
Destin scored one last run in the fourth, a solo home run shot by Sherer to left center.
Meigs scored its only run in the third inning.
“Ava Smith did a great job on the mound again today,” Cahoon said.
Smith went the distance striking out nine and walking two.
“I don’t think we had any errors that were outstanding. Our defense was good,” Cahoon said.
As a matter of fact, Sherer pulled off a triple play to end the game.
Up next for Destin is a 4:30 p.m. road game in Crestview against the Shoal River Mustangs. Destin will be on the road again Thursday for a makeup game at 4:30 p.m. with the Pryor Pirates.
