The Big Red Grill and Bar along Destin harbor turned one on Friday.
The grill, which is an expansion of the Big Red Truck food truck, which turns five this year, is owned by Casey and Jami Jones.
“We really didn’t know what we were getting into,” Casey said.
“It’s been a challenge, a lot of work, but it’s been fun,” Jami added.
The grill had its official grand opening last year on June 1 with a crawfish boil and celebrated its first birthday last Friday with the same.
Billy Adams, aka “Crawfish Billy,” served up crawfish, along with new potatoes, corn and sausage for the celebration. Friends and regular customers turned out for the evening on the waterfront.
On a daily basis The Big Red Grill serves up everything from fish tacos, lettuce wedges, and Philly steak and cheese sandwiches to their specialty “Breakfast in a Cup.”
The Breakfast in a Cup is a biscuit, grits, hash browns, meat, sawmill gravy and topped off with a runny egg all in a 16-ounce cup.
“This is a good fit for us because what we do is kind of niche,” Jami said. “And it’s a great spot for us because it’s casual.”
In addition to having the Big Red Truck and the Grill and Bar, the Joneses also cater.
“We do a lot of catering to the boats,” Jami said, as well as for other events.
The business has been booming.
“It took off a lot quicker than we thought,” Casey said.
“We had to run to catch up, but it’s been great,” Jami added.
