After a rainout last week, the city of Destin’s Baseball Camp went off without a hitch this week with a dozen youth participating in the three-day event.

“We were basically teaching them the fundamentals and just having fun with the kids,” said Howard Wortman, who helped out with the camp as president of the Destin Little League Association.

Wortman said they even played a little kickball with the kids for fun.

But basically the camp was all about equipping the youth with the fundamentals such as hitting, field and throwing.

A dozen boys ages 7-8 showed up for the camp held at Dalton Threadgill Little League Park.

The camp culminated with a little scrimmage game, using the pitching machine, Thursday afternoon.

Wortman said Destin Little League will be having a fall season with games beginning in September. He said it would be an eight-week season, with each team playing one game a week.
