Out of 50 girls participating, Destin’s Madison Tenore shot the lowest score to lead her team, the Niceville Eagles, to a Regional Championship in Gainesville last week.
With the win, the Eagles will get another shot at the state championship on Nov. 6-7 at Mission Inn Resort, Howey-in-the-Hills. Last year, Niceville placed second.
However, last week at Regional’s, the Eagles rose to the top.
Tenore led the effort with a 69, three-under par. Others scoring for Niceville were Alia Scotka with a 72. Paola Rosario shot a 74, Rachel Smith an 86 and Marina Bocchino a 96.
“My short game was working best. The greens were perfect,” Tenore said.
Tenore had five birdies on the day and two bogies.
“I think we did well as a team … I’m proud of my teammates,” she said.
Niceville won it with a score of 301 with Bartram Trail placing second with a 337.
As for their chances at state, “I think our chances are really good. We have the potential to do it,” Tenore said.
