The Destin Marlins pitching staff held the Baker Gators to three hits resulting in an 8-0 victory for the Marlins in middle school baseball action in Baker Monday evening.
“Everyone that got in threw the ball very well," said Destin Coach Mathew Cawthon. "I was very happy with the pitching.”
Alex Kruse started on the mound and pitched four innings, striking out six, giving up two hits and two walks. Caleb Reeder threw two innings, struck out two, walked one and gave up one hit. Owen Davis finished up in the seventh with two strikeouts and three walks.
As for the bats, Destin collected eight hits on the evening.
Wyatt Wainwright led the sticks with two singles for two RBIs. Donovan Monsees ripped a double for two RBIs, while Noah Wright had a single for two RBIs and Caleb Reed singled in a run. Others with base hits were Zander Davis, Dylan Matekovich and Kruse.
Destin got on the scoreboard in the second inning. After Monsees drew a walk, Matekovich singled up the middle. The next batter flew out to center field. Up next, Wainwright ripped a single up the middle to score Monsees and Matekovich.
After two scoreless innings, Destin had a six-run rally in the fifth inning. Wainwright and Kruse hit back-to-back singles and Logan Reeder walked. Braxton Taylor popped up to the pitcher and Wainwright scored. Wright smacked a single to right center to bring in two runs and Caleb Reeder followed with a single to left for an RBI. Davis reached on an error and Monsees belted a double to right for two RBIs and an 8-0 lead.
“We were playing with a little bit of energy today … it was a fun day,” Cawthon said.
