The Destin Marlin tennis teams finished in the top three in the Okaloosa County Middle School Tennis Tournament at Bluewater Bay Tennis Center.

In the Class 1A competition, the Destin boys finished in second place overall while the Destin girls placed third.

In boys singles play, Destin’s No. 1 seed, Gates Chipser won his first match 6-1 and finished up in the tournament as a semifinalist.

Destin’s No. 2, Eisley Ingram lost his first match 6-2 to Anthony Sheppard of Liza Jackson, but finished up in the tournament as a consolation finalist.

Charlie Frankfurt, No. 3 for Destin, beat Angelo Villeneuva 6-0 in the first match and finished up as a finalist.

Destin’s No. 4, Palmer Robbins won in the consolation round and Destin’s 5 player, Gabe Stevens wrapped up as a consolation finalist.

In the girls’ singles, Destin’s Elle Stubbs lost her first match 6-0 to Davidson’s Ashlee Hammonds, but then finished up as a consolation finalist.

Destin’s No. 2 Keira Keener lost her first round to Davidson’s Gabrielle Pfaff, 6-3, but won in the consolation.

No. 3 player, Destin’s Gysel Nohrenberg beat Shoal River’s Katherine Law 6-2 and finished as a semifinalist.

Abby Fortenberry in the No. 4 slot lost in the first round to Shoal River’s Tiffany Rowe, 6-2. Fortenberry finished up the day as a consolation winner.

GiGi Bior, No. 5, won her first round 6-2 and finished as a consolation finalist.

In double’s play on day two of the tournament, Frankfurt and Robbins teamed up and made it all the way to the finals, but lost to Ruckel.

“I’m so blessed to have gotten the opportunity to work with such an awesome group of young players,” said Destin Coach Brett Chipser.

“I am truly proud of each member of the Destin Middle School tennis team.”
