Despite a last inning surge by the Destin All-Stars, it was too little too late with Tri-County taking the win 15-10 in the Florida District 1 10-12 year baseball tournament at Dalton Threadgill Little League Park in Destin Wednesday evening.

Tri-County started strong scoring five runs in the top of the first on four hits. Hayden Morris singled and scored on a double from Weston Salter. Jacob Knowles was good for a single and two RBIs and Bryce Bowers knocked in the last run on single to right.

In the bottom half, Destin’s Landon Ullrich singled up the middle and eventually stole home for a 5-1 game.

In the second, Tri-County picked up one more run on one hit.

Destin’s Gunnar Smith singled but was left stranded for a no-score second inning for the home team.

In the top of the third, Tri-County added three more runs on one hit from Garrett Varnadoe with two errors and two walks in the mix.

Down 9-1, Destin started to battle back in the bottom of the third. Will Jourdan led with a single up the middle and scored on a triple to right by Kadon Chapman. Will Blanchard followed with a triple to right center to score Chapman. Up next, Caleb Wright put down a bunt single with Blanchard scoring. The next two batters struck out and Wright was pegged trying to steal home. Destin trailed 9-4.

In the top of the fourth, the Destin defense shut Tri-County down quickly. Third baseman Wright fielded a grounder for an out then pitcher Robert Pankratz fielded a ball for a throw to first for an out. Pankratz then struck the next batter.

The Destin All-Stars failed to score in the bottom half as well.

In the top of the fifth, Tri-County exploded on the ball pounding out six hits for six runs. Brady Godwin hit a double.

Down 15-4, Destin had to score two runs to stay alive. With one out, Blanchard singled up the middle and stole second. Wright walked. Before it was over, both Blanchard and Wright stole home to keep the Destin All-Stars in the game.

In the top of the sixth, Destin gave up three hits but no runs. Tri-County led 15-6.

In the bottom of the sixth, Destin knocked in four runs before going down. With one out, Griffin Cann reached on an error. The next batter struck out and then Chapman singled to left. Up next, Blanchard doubled up the middle to score Cann. Wright followed with a double to right for two RBIs. Smith stepped up and smacked a double off the centerfield fence for an RBI. Smith was left stranded when the next batter struck out for the loss.

For the game, Tri-County collected 15 hits while Destin had 11. Morris led Tri-County with three hits and Blanchard topped Destin with three hits.
