The Ruckel Rams doubled up on the Destin Marlins to post a 10-3 win in middle school softball action earlier this week.

The Rams had twice as many hits as Destin with the Marlins connecting for only four.

Eighth grader Ava Smith led the Destin sticks with two hits, one a stand-up double. Lilly Rudd and Addy Taylor were each good for a single.

"We just struggled to get the bat on the ball," said Destin Coach Kati O’Brian.

"Ruckel simply out hit us," she added.

Ava Gibson and Emma Sites each had multiple hits for the Rams. Others with one hit each were Elaina Perkins, Reagan Reynolds, Samantha Koscho, Alexis Orcutt and Krissa Troutman.

On a postive note for the Marlins, O’Brian said they threw all three pitchers in the game, one of which was fifth-grader Anna Beyhl.

"I was so proud of her for taking on such a challenge and keeping the hits and runs down," O’Brian said.

"Our defense did well ... a win just wasn’t in the cards," she said.

Ruckel got on the board first with a run in the top of the second.

In the third, Ruckel picked up one more on a pair of hits.

Destin cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the third. Rudd singled and eventually scored on a passed ball at the plate.

In the top of the fourth, the Rams scored three runs on four back-to-back hits. Sites drove in two runs on a double up the middle and Reynolds singled up the middle for an RBI. Ruckel led 5-1.

Destin picked up one more run in the bottom half. Smith doubled to left and then stole around for the score.

Ruckel extended its lead in the top of the fifth with three runs. Sites singled up the middle for two RBIs. Sites later scored on a wild pitch.

The Marlins scored their last run of the game in the bottom of the fifth. Rudd drew a walk. Harper King who was pinch running for Rudd scored on a single to left by Taylor.

Ruckel added one more run as well in the top of the sixth on three hits for a 10-3 finish.

Up next for Destin is a 4:30 p.m. game at Meigs on March 26.
