It's open! Whole Foods holds grand opening in Destin
More than 500 people were lined up outside of Whole Foods in Destin before the store’s eagerly anticipated grand opening Wednesday morning.
“I’ve been here since noon yesterday,” said Shannon Upton, who was the first customer in line. “I love Whole Foods. I’m kind of a health nut. Besides the organic foods, there are so many reasons to love it.”
The first family in line, Blakely Anderson and her two-year-old son Grayson drove two hours from Alabama just for the event.
“We left the house around 4:15 this morning. We’ve been waiting a year for Whole Foods to open up,” she said. “I love it because you can go in and buy all kinds of good stuff for your family without worrying about the ingredients.”
Destin Commons General Manager Bob Perry said the shopping center was excited to see the new grocer open it’s doors. Perry added that Whole Foods has exclusive rights as the only grocer for the Destin Commons property.
“It’s been a long time coming,” he said. “Anytime you’re doing a store of this nature and size it’s a long process.”
Although Whole Foods representatives said that a turnout of 500-1,000 people on opening day is common for their stores, they were excited to see strong customer support in Destin.
“We definitely want to thank the Destin community for embracing us,” said Whole Foods Marketing Field Specialist Jessica Foy.
