ECAR to treat Wounded Warriors to day of fishing
The Emerald Coast Association of Realtors will host its second annual Soldiers on the Water event Aug. 23 and registration is now open for any interested Wounded Warriors.
The event provides a day of world-class fishing in Destin, aka the World’s Luckiest Fishing Village, to Wounded Soldiers, airmen, sailors, Marines, and Gold Star children. The all-day event will begin with registration at 6:30 a.m. and will conclude at 7 p.m.
Last year the event hosted 35 Wounded Warriors for a day of fishing, followed by a fish dinner. This year, organizers hope to have 75 Wounded Warriors from throughout the Florida Panhandle participate.
“We feel it is our duty to find ways to pay homage to our Wounded Warriors and hope this event can serve as a token of our gratitude for their service. We are very appreciative of all the members of the Emerald Coast community who have gotten behind this project and are helping us make this a day to remember for our Wounded Warriors,” said Realtor Justin Lindsey, who helped found the event last year and is serving as this year’s event organizer.
Soldiers on the Water will offer both deep-sea fishing and inshore fishing boats as part of the experience. All food, equipment and licensing will be provided by ECAR and other event sponsors.
New this year, the event will also feature a fishing tournament as part of the fun, with awards for biggest catch, first catch and most catches.
