This vacant parcel of land is slated to become the site of Hobby Lobby, based on a development application filed with the city.

A Hobby Lobby store is joining Target in The Shores Shopping Center.

“We feel that we can bring a very unique shopping experience to the area,” said Hobby Lobby’s Vince Parker. “We are looking forward to becoming part of the community.”

The application was filed Aug. 29 on behalf of KRD Coastal FL Holdings, LLC, a Douglasville, Georgia based company.

The Tier 1 project calls for the construction of a 55, 121 square foot retail building at 875 Harbor Boulevard. This would be an addition to the existing shopping center. The parcel was purchased for $1 million in December 2013.

Hobby Lobby’s roots, according to its website, began in the early ‘70s in Oklahoma with a “mere 300 square feet of retail space.” Since then, the arts and crafts retailer has grown to more than 600 stores across the nation.

The application is currently under review by the city’s technical review team, which is tasked with reviewing development projects to ensure they meet specific criteria.

Parker said the company is aiming for a late Spring 2015 Grand Opening.
