The Emerald Coast Association of Realtors surprised four area elementary schools this week with donations to their music programs.

The Community and Military Outreach Committee (CMOC) is ECAR’s arm for planning and implementing community service and military support projects. CMOC members spent the week delivering $900 checks to elated music teachers at Mary Esther, Shalimar, Freeport and West DeFuniak Elementary Schools.

"I can't wait to get these kids some drums," cheered West DeFuniak Elementary Music Teacher, Gina Ealum.

“I’m very excited; I can’t wait to buy some instruments” said Shalimar Elementary School Music Teacher Tom Latenser, “I was thinking about buying some ukuleles, something the kids can play together this year and in future classes.”

Additional ideas by the music teachers were to purchase tablets, for teaching their kids how to read music, and instruments for upcoming holiday recitals.

ECAR’s mission includes making a difference in the communities it serves, and helping schools have better resources seemed like a perfect fit to the CMOC members.

To evenly represent ECAR’s coverage area, two schools were chosen from Walton County and two from Okaloosa County,
