Camellia workshop scheduled

Special to the Log

The 17th annual Camellia Workshop/Open House/Plant Sale, presented by the Greater Fort Walton Beach Camellia Society, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 6, from 9 a.m. until noon. The workshop, which is open to the public free of charge, will be at the Okaloosa County Extension Service Building, W. 127 Hollywood Ave. in Fort Walton Beach. This is an open house type event, so participants may arrive and leave anytime during the morning.

Several varieties of camellia plants will be available for purchase. Attendees will receive one-on-one, hands-on instruction from local Camellia society members on various aspects of growing camellias, including pruning, air-layering, propagation, etc. Information about planting and caring for camellias throughout the year will also be provided. Visitors are encouraged to bring samples of leaves, blooms, etc., to the pests/diseases table for evaluation of plants about which they are concerned.

The Greater Fort Walton Beach Camellia Society holds its regular meetings on the third Tuesday of each month at the Okaloosa County Extension Service Building on Hollywood Ave., Fort Walton Beach. For more information, call Joe at 850-862-4526 or email camelliafwb@cox.net.
