The Destin Garden Club will have Marie Harrison as their guest speaker for at its 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 13 meeting at the Destin Public Library, 150 Sibert. She will give a presentation on camellias.

Harrison serves on the board of directors for the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs (FFGC) and the Deep South Region. An NGC Master Flower Show Judge and NGC Horticulture Instructor for Flower Show Schools and Symposia, she is a University of Florida Okaloosa County Master Gardener volunteer and a Floral Design instructor for FFGC. In these capacities, she teaches and shares her love of gardening and floral design throughout the South and beyond.

Harrison also writes gardening articles for several magazines and websites, including Florida Gardening and Dave’s Garden. In addition, she is the author of four books about southern gardening that will be available at the meeting. She is also the founder and leader for the Tri-County Horticulture Studies Group, which meets monthly and is aimed at becoming familiar with plants and growing techniques for our area.

The Destin Garden Club would like to extend a welcome invitation to the public to attend this free, informative and educational presentation. Membership is available to anyone wishing to join for $35 a year and entitles members to attend additional members-only functions, such as workshops and garden home visits, etc.

The Destin Garden Club also helps maintain the grounds of the Destin Library. The object of the club is to stimulate the love of gardening among members; to promote gardening through community projects; to aid in the protection of birds, trees, shrubs and flowers; to encourage city beautification; and to share with members and others the fruit of our studies.
