Local singer Geoff McBride is on a journey, and this time it has nothing to do with prime time television and all to do with his heart and soul.

McBride, known locally for his performances at Old Florida Fish House and First Note Music Hall and nationally for his spot on The Voice, has decided to take an independent approach to releasing his next album, “Journey to the Soul,” through crowdfunding website This website allows people to propose projects to be funded by financial backers, who are given exclusive perks in return.

McBride’s fans have pledged nearly $4,500 of the $40,000 goal to be reached before Oct. 31, and will collect signed CDs of the album, concert tickets, a day in the studio with McBride and a house concert.

McBride says making an independent record allows him to share his talent, story and worldview without making compromises. “I wouldn’t be me,” said the former Arista recording artist of returning to a larger-label platform. “This new project, it’s joy, it’s pain, it’s laughter. It explains me.”

McBride’s partner in business is his wife of more than a decade, Lisa, who, along with the couple’s three children, serves as a major motivation for the project.

“I look at my wife and kids every morning, we’re each other’s rock,” said Geoff. “This is not just my journey, this is about the rest of the family.”
